Opal’s Heart is an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2020 to assist the unhoused within the Metropolitan DC area and fulfill what is in our hearts, to help others. Our Mission is to provide the unhoused with dignity one care package at a time.
Meet the Team
Sophia Dacus
Executive Director/Founder
Sophia Dacus is the Founder and Executive Director of Opal’s Heart, Inc. She has always been one to help others and after spending 10 years in the non-profit sector, she decided to branch out and create something that she held dear to her heart and that is how Opal’s Heart was started.
Lhatoya Reed
Secretary
Lhatoya Reed is our Secretary. She believes that being of benefit to others is at the center of being a good neighbor and good citizen.
Janae Hedgepeth
Social Media Manager
Janae Hedgepeth is the Social Media Manager of Opal's Heart, Inc. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Public Relations from Frostburg State University. She has always had a passion to serve the community.
Star Rollins
Volunteer Coordinator
Star Rollins is our Volunteer Coordinator. She has had many different passions in life, but the one that remains, is her passion for helping others in their time of need.
Kay
Student Volunteer/ Social Media Assistant
Kay is not only one of our Student Volunteers but she is also our Social Media Assistant. While she is one year away from graduating, she enjoys doing research on various topics, photography, drawing and reading.
